Access Approach – ARUCC MyCreds/MesCertif
Overview
The Access Approach within the ARUCC MyCreds/MesCertif digital credential network ensures that post-secondary institutions and trade agencies serving Indigenous communities can fully participate in the national credentialing system. These “Access Schools,” which focus on Indigenous curriculum, face unique challenges such as limited resources and smaller student populations.
ARUCC is committed to providing equal access to the digital credential network for all institutions, regardless of size or resources. This approach helps ensure that Access Schools can still benefit from the shared infrastructure and opportunities available.
In alignment with Canadian human rights principles, “access” refers to the right of individuals to obtain services, opportunities, and information without discrimination, promoting equality, inclusion, and opportunity for all.
Key Characteristics of an ARUCC MyCreds/MesCertif Access Institution:
Serving primarily Indigenous communities
This includes First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students, offering educational opportunities tailored to the unique needs and cultural backgrounds of these groups.
Delivering Indigenous curriculum
Focused on providing programs and courses that reflect Indigenous knowledge, values, and perspectives.
Access Approach – Definition
- An access school within the ARUCC MyCreds/MesCertif network refers to post-secondary institutions or trade agencies serving Indigenous communities with a focus on Indigenous curriculum. These schools often have fewer resources or students compared to larger institutions.
- Access schools play a key role in ensuring equal access to the national network for all institutions, regardless of size or student population.
- In Canadian human rights frameworks, “access” refers to the right to obtain goods, services, or opportunities without discrimination, ensuring equal opportunity and inclusion for all.
By integrating Access Schools into the ARUCC MyCreds/MesCertif network, the goal is to provide equal opportunity and inclusion for Indigenous-serving institutions, ensuring they can actively participate in the digital credentialing ecosystem and support their students’ mobility and recognition in the broader national and international educational landscape.
