Bridging today and tomorrow – ensuring self-sovereignty for learners through ARUCC’s MyCreds™

ARUCC is pleased to announce a partnership between Digitary, its service partner, and MATTR, a friend of MyCreds™..
These two international organizations are combining their talents to deliver SSI (self-sovereign identity) and Verifiable Credentials for the ARUCC MyCreds™ virtual wallet. This groundbreaking work means the Canadian MyCreds™ credential wallet along with other international members of the Digitary global network will be able to reach an even higher bar of service delivery for mobile learners, creating a triangle of trust that includes them and the Canadian colleges and universities.ARUCC, Digitary and MATTR share a common goal to provide learners with full agency and control of their credentials using cutting edge practices and technology. MyCreds™ offers complete control and credential portability as part of a global network supporting two million learners. The work underway with the support and expertise of these three world renowned innovators means the future has arrived for Canadian learners.

What are Verifiable Credentials?
Verifiable Credentials are the electronic equivalent of the physical credentials that we use every day: qualifications, awards, transcripts, and more. The Verifiable Credentials Data model puts the learner at the centre of the academic trust ecosystem, leaving permission in their hands.
What is SSI?
SSI, self-sovereign identity, is an approach to digital identity that puts control of Verifiable Credentials in the hands of learners, with sharing requiring their consent. This entire philosophy is core to the ARUCC MyCreds™ platform and to Digitary and MATTR’s innovative efforts.

“ARUCC is intent on providing a MyCreds™ virtual wallet that is comprehensive and future focused,” says Charmaine Hack, Project Steering Chair. “The combined efforts of our colleges and universities, our hubs, ARUCC, Digitary and MATTR ensure all spokes of the wheel will be in place for supporting learners through MyCreds™ while also providing colleges and universities with the capacity to steward their accountabilities. Our collective efforts ensure standards-based quality assured practices.”
